Their are several benefits to going with a wood wall mount shelf over the alternatives. Wood is more appealing to look at and it blends in with the surroundings quite well. It also happens to be quite cheap if you know the right places to look.
Most people would assume that home improvement stores are the best places to go for a set of new shelves. Which would be true if you were planning on buying the lumber and building them yourself. If you do decide to get lumber from the hardware store make sure to look for discount labels. Often times there are certain kinds of wood they will be selling for a great price. If you don’t plan to build your own shelves don’t go to the hardware store.
For really cheap shelves check out your local thrift stores. Often times small shelves are taken to thrift stores and you can get them for a few dollars. For a more specific type of shelf you will either have to check several department stores or look online. Many shelves can be pretty cheap if they are small. Once you get up to the larger shelves the shipping prices ruin most of the deals you might find.
For a more specialized wood wall shelf or set of shelves you will most likely have to have them made or make them yourself. If you are handy with tools and have a circular saw or a jig saw making your own is a much more affordable route to take. Look online for some wall mounted wood shelf plans and base your own plans off of others. Don’t be afraid to take cheap wood if it isn’t the right color. A little bit of stain can go a long way to making cheap wood look high quality.
