Density – Porcelain and ceramic kitchen tiles are both made from water, sand, and clay. There seems to be not much difference, isn’t it? Wrong. Porcelain tiles are more compact than ceramic tiles in a sense that the natural clay used in porcelains are very dense. This makes them harder than ceramics.
Color – Ceramic tiles are usually glazed in various colors and designs. This is why ceramics are probably the best bet when it comes to having a backsplash with mural or mosaic patterns. On the other hand, porcelain tiles are usually not glazed. Their inherent characteristic creates an evenly distributed shade across the tile surface.
Prices – Porcelain tiles usually cost more than ceramic kitchen tiles. An 18in x 18in porcelain tile can cost between $4 up to $30 depending on the thickness and type of natural clay used. On the other hand, a similarly sized ceramic tile can cost from $2.00 up to $19 depending on the thickness. Furthermore, ceramic tiles can also be available in various mural sets composing of a few dozen individual tiles. These sets can create a stunning backdrop that will stand out for everyone to see and adore.
