Halogen Heaters: The Hot New Option

a guest post by Kurt Wessels

Many people are frustrated with the costs of heating their homes during the winter, especially in cold areas where winters are long and chilly. Many turn to using space heaters in their home to minimize wasted energy and added costs that accumulate from heating rooms that are not in use. However, electrical heaters add cost to the electric bill. An inefficient model can burn up a great deal of money if it is used for an extended period of time. People are also realizing the environmental impacts that using electricity has. A new product that is becoming more and more common is the halogen heater.

Halogen HeatersHalogen heaters do use electricity, but they are often more efficient than traditional electrical coils. These items use halogen elements that are often considered to be safer than typical space heaters. Just as with regular heaters, one can find halogen heaters in a variety of sizes and styles. An oscillating, or moving, heater is useful to distribute heat throughout a room. One can purchase a larger size for a large room of several interconnecting rooms, or a smaller heater to use in a centralized area. One could buy a mini heater to put at their feet while they watch TV or work at a desk.

Traditional heaters can be dangerous and even cause fires when they are tipped. A child may burn themselves by accidentally touching the outside of the heater. Fortunately, halogen models usually are cool to the touch on the outside. Some models will even shut off automatically if the area gets too hot or the heater is knocked over, making them perfect for homes that have pets or kids.

A halogen electric heater will likely cost more than a typical heater. However, when one considers the safety features and durability of a halogen model, it is likely to be more cost effective.
