Rest Well On Platform Beds

If you’ve never owned a platform bed, you may be wondering why they’re such a great piece of bedroom furniture.  They are.  The main difference between platform beds and other beds is that they do not have a box spring.  The single mattress lays on… you guessed it: a platform!  The platform is made of wooden slats or solid panels.  Since that box spring is not necessary, platform beds actually provide more storage underneath than other beds.  The platform can rest higher from the floor while the mattress remains at a remarkably comfortable height.  Not only that, but they achieve a uniquely sleek, clean look.

Platform beds come with or without built in storage compartments.  Platform beds with storage compartments built in, usually drawers, complete the smoothness of the look.  The messiness of free drawers or containers is avoided.

Price differences will depend on the material your platform bed frame is made of, and its size.  Metal will often be less expensive than wooden frames, but this also depends on the quality of wood and how decorative the design is.  Comparing a twin size versus full size platform bed, the full size will be more expensive by a small variable; perhaps $10 to $50 difference.  A queen size will follow as a close third.  The king size platform bed, however, will be more expensive than a queen by $90 or more.  Your cheap platform beds are generally a very basic frame with no headboard whatsoever, and no built in storage.  These may be half the price of a typical twin size.

Believe it or not, you can even create your own platform bed plans.  You can design the lines and looks, the storage options, perhaps even put in a trundle frame beneath.  This will usually be less expensive than buying one at your local furniture business, but obviously requires skill or an adventurous streak.  Build it yourself or have it built by specialists, the options are endless.

So, platform bed frames can be found and made in all styles and variations, just like traditional bed frames.  Perhaps even more.  Wooden bed frames or metal, a modern platform bed or a more traditional look; with or without headboards, and headboards of all kinds, storage or trundles underneath.  They even make canopy platform beds.  Don’t limit yourself in your search for the appropriate bed for your room!  A bed is a pivotal piece in your living space.

Kids Beds Make Or Break It

Do you remember being a kid?  How much fun was it to reorganize your bedroom furniture?  Or buy fun sets of sheets?  You could spend hours looking through magazines at kids beds, closets, accessories?  Every child wants input in creating the room.   So make the dream come true!  Offer your child a totally new look, just by working on the beds.

Kids bedding is the simplest and least expensive way to transform the bedroom.  Deep dark colors can contrast bright or light walls to create a childish and fun atmosphere. Pastels will soften white walls.  Your child can choose cartoon prints or outer space patterns to make them real “kid beds”, floral designs, scenes from movies… anything you fancy, kids bedding designs are endless.  Even your toddler can enjoy the newness of fun bedding!

When your kids are growing out of a small bed, kids twin beds are the best choice.  You can get single twin beds for kids, bunk beds, and loft beds.  They each have their own benefits and character.  You and your child can design an entire bedroom merely from the right choice from these kids beds!

If you have children sharing a bedroom, kids bunk beds save space and are an entertainment system in themselves.  Bunk beds usually come in wood or metal frames.  They are available in every color and style imaginable, from simple white bunkbeds to elaborate hand-painted masterpieces.  You can get movable ladders, or built in.  Even rope ladders are a possibility!  Kids bunk beds practically beg themselves to be used as “kid forts” and children can spend hours entertaining themselves with this possibility.  Just make sure your ceilings are high enough for when that kid tries to stand on the top bunk!

If the bedroom is large enough, you can offer your children twin beds.  Kids twin beds are especially charming if your children enjoy matching bed sets.  Canopy beds are also an option.  These beds also have storage space underneath; useful for clothing, toys, or any other storage items.

Kids loft beds are also great space savers, but perhaps more useful in a bedroom that is not being shared.  This single bed allows dressers or writing desks to be put under the bed, like a miniature office.  It leaves the rest of the bedroom space open and creates a real feeling of “my own place” for your child.

Choosing the right bed will really change the character and quality of the bedroom.  Discuss, design, and shop with child for a true bonding experience.
