Just The Memory Foam Mattress Pad

Memory foam is the most popular, fastest growing design for mattresses and mattress pads in the sleep industry. Nearly all consumers who buy quality products rave about memory foam and how much better sleep they are getting. It’s not a hoax. Memory foam really is an innovative product that has brought greater comfort to sleep!

Once you’ve done a little bit of research on what memory foam is and how it works, you should be familiar: the foam conforms to your body based upon pressure and temperature to relieve pressure points better than any other foam or latex mattress. But quality memory foam mattresses can be expensive, and the memory foam mattress pads are less so. Can you get by with just a topper, or do you need to invest in a whole new mattress?

Most research attests that if you have a mattress in good shape, that is not way too soft, rock hard, or already suffered compressed and sagging spots, a proper memory foam mattress pad topper is sufficient to significantly increase sleep comfort. That means if your mattress is basically okay, just not the comfort that you seek, a topper will do you great.

If your mattress is not in good shape, you can still make the shopping cheaper. Buy a very good basic mattress, with no pillow top or other flairs, and then add a memory foam mattress topper pad. Good toppers do wear down after four to five years, but this way you can replace the topper, not the whole mattress.

There are a few things you’ll want to know before buying that visco memory foam mattress pad, however.

First, what density topper do you need? Consumer Comfort recommends memory foam toppers that are at least of 3lb. density, but even better is 4lb. A 2lb. density doesn’t offer enough noticeable comfort for most people, and the 5lb. doesn’t offer enough difference to make the extra cost worthwhile. You do pay for the denser foam mattress memory pad.

Second, how thick does your topper need to be? Two to three inches is the recommended thickness to achieve real comfort without breaking your budget.
A 3 inch, 4lb. topper will last you a good 4 to 5 years before needing replacement.

Third, how much should you pay?
Be very wary of “too good to be true” memory foam prices. Especially off brand names may use other foams and materials to create the density, without investing in pure quality memory foam. Speak to the companies, inquire as to their suppliers and manufacturers, if you want to buy these brands. In well known or trusted brands, let this give you some good price ideas:
Twin memory foam mattress pad: 2” pad, $125 to $150…3” pad, $160 to $180
Queen memory foam mattress pad: 2” pad, $180 to $220…3” pad, $230 to $250
King size memory foam mattress pad: 2” pad, $230 to $260…3”pad, $290 to $310
