Looking At Log Cabin Floor Plans
a guest post by Vernon Metivier
Log cabins all begin with a floor plan. It is so nice when log cabin floor plans are found right on a company’s website. Having many free plans to browse through really makes the value of the site increase to the user. It is not very appealing to a potential customer when they have to pay for everything. If floor plans are there for the customer’s use, then they can gain a feel for the log home company before they ever even speak with a representative.
A step above just displaying plans is when a company also shows some of their models built. Looking at log cabin floor plans and pictures of the home when it is actually built is very helpful. The two are shown side by side, so you can compare the photos with the floor plans and sketched elevations. This adds a tremendous amount of value to the user.
Another feature of a log home company to evaluate is if the company offers a wide range of floor plans within the same approximate square footage. Having four or five verses fifteen within a cross section of square footage gives the future homeowner more choices and all access to more ideas. You can decide to look at all of the different large, medium, or small log cabin floor plans, depending on the size home you want to have built.
When evaluating these plans, you should always remember that they can be modified. Walls can be redrawn, overall foot print of the home can be enlarged or shortened. A rough customization of a plan is typically a service that the representative and log home company will do for free. Then a log package quote can be given based on the sketch. In the preliminary drawing phase the plans are refined and made to exactly reflect what the homeowner wants.
A cape code style home can also be found in log home floor plans. With two gable dormers on the front, they are very easy to spot homes. For a cape code the bedrooms typically have one of two arrangements. The master bedroom can be on the first floor and then two more bedrooms on the second floor with a bathroom. The other arrangement has the master suite on the second floor with an open loft. Either one is a very good use of space. The final choice solely depends on the customer.
When you find the right log cabin floor plan for your home, chances are you’ll know it right away. It is such an exciting feeling to see the outline of your dream home, and to build it up in your mind, knowing that you’ll be able to watch it be built for real, and will be just exactly the way you wanted it to be.
