Some can even be adjusted in such a way that two people sharing one (say, a couple sleeping together) can select different settings, with one opting for a soft setting whilst the other one opts for a harder setting. 1) Teflon tape

This tape is used to wrap around pipe threads that are being joined together to prevent any leakage.  The tape is inexpensive, silky to the touch, but strong.  While it is mostly used to prevent water leakage, it is also useful for stopping air and gas seepage.

2) A sink plunger  (cup plunger)

This is just a rubber cup attached to a stick, but it’s exactly what a plumber needs when clearing clogs in sinks, bathtubs and showers.  But when dealing with a toilet clog, most plumbers will use a specialized toilet plunger (see next item).

3) Toilet plunger (flange plunger)

Unlike a standard sink plunger (see previous item) a toilet plunger is specially designed to work on the curved surface of the toilet bowl without slipping.  It is sometimes referred to as a flange plunger as there is an extra section of rubber – called a flange – that protrudes off the end of the rubber cup.  This is placed inside the toilet trap-way entrance prior to plunging to help create a solid seal.

4) Toilet auger (closet auger, plumbers snake)

Although a toilet plunger is normally effective at getting rid of most toilet clogs, occasionally a plumber will come across a very stubborn “hard” clog that will not dislodge.  For this, a toilet auger is needed.  It’s basically a flexible cable with a coiled wire “bit” on the end that is extended and retracted by turning the handle on one end of the tool.  Unlike a drain auger (see next item) it is specifically designed for use on toilets and shouldn’t damage the porcelain of the toilet bowl. The term “snaking a toilet” refers to the process of feeding an auger cable through the toilet pipes.

5) Drain auger (sink auger)

Designed for dislodging and clearing clogs in sinks and tubs the flexible cable that is used to penetrate the pipes is coiled within a dram canister and released when the drum is turned.  The cable is much longer than that used in a toilet auger and the instrument does not have a protective rubber sleeve so can easily damage a toilet if used on one.

So what is the best way to get rid of the clutter? You just have to take a stand and start cleaning up the clutter in each zone. One way to get motivated is to try to find something in those cabinets and drawers. Start with dumping out your kitchen drawers and insert kitchen drawer organizers into each one. Now, at least there are dividers that allow you to separate various kitchen items. Only place back into the drawers those items that are related to the kitchen.

You can do the same to your kitchen cabinets by removing all of the items in each cabinet, one by one. While the cabinet is empty clean out the shelves and possibly lay down new shelf paper. Then place the less-utilized items on the top shelf and the more utilized items on the lower shelves. Maybe pick up a few turntables or lazy Susans so that you can place your pots, pans, or food items on a revolving surface for easy accessibility.

When you are done with this exercise, your kitchen will be much more manageable. It will be much more pleasurable to cook your meals in a clutter-free, organized space. So get motivated and clear out that kitchen. After you do, you’ll be upset that you didn’t tackle this project a lot sooner.

Is  having the right grout cleaner the only thing required for successful tile and grout cleaning? Not so, but it is only the first step to achieving sparkly clean tiles and grouts. I would like to share some secrets about effective tile and grout cleaning.

Secret # 1 – Always rinse the area to be cleaned with plain water. Although some labels specify this but more often the person will just proceed to applying the cleaner without this first and important step. Why? The tiles or grouts may contain chemical residue from soaps or shampoos. The cleaner will react to this instead focus its cleaning power to the dirt and grime. The unnecessary reaction between the cleaner and these chemical residues lessens greatly the cleaner’s effectiveness against dirt or stain.

Secret # 2 – You must follow formulation specified in the label for effective results when you clean tile grout. The directions written on the label are products of intensive research. They have already tried it that way in the laboratory and if you want to achieve similar results, you must follow their steps.

Secret # 3 – Unless specified in the label, soak your tile or grout overnight. Give more time for the cleaner to work deeply into the stains in the grout. Then using the right tools, proceed to the entire steps in cleaning tiles and grouts.

Secret # 4 – Use nylon brush instead of mops or sponges. The bristles can reach into places where mops and sponges cannot.

Secret # 5 – Dilute a weak solution of your cleaner and put it in a spray bottle. After the soaking time has expired, scrub the tile or grout while spraying the spot you are cleaning with the solution. This will give more strength to the applied cleaner. Just wear gloves to avoid damage to your hands.

Secret # 5 – Be sure to mop or wipe the area dry after cleaning or after every use. Maintenance is the key. Fungi and bacteria grow very well in damp places so keeping your tiles and grouts dry will help minimize them.

Secret # 6 – Use door mats in highly traffic areas so that your floor tiles and grouts are protected from the dust carried inside by shoes or slippers. You may also provide slippers inside your bathroom and making it a rule that shoes or slippers worn outside are not allowed inside.

Secret # 7 – Lastly, the secret to effective tile and grout cleaning is a cheerful heart. This beats all the best cleaners and tools available. Have one and you will realize that grout cleaning is half  done even before you have started.
