England Furniture Duds Or No Duds?
The England Furniture company is a stylish furniture line focusing primarily on living room pieces. England living room furniture includes sofas, chairs, and sectionals, any of which can include various motion types. Stationary pieces, swivels, gliders, sleepers, rockers, and recliners… you name it, and an England Furniture store will have it. This American made furniture variety can make any patriot proud.
One of the most attractive things praised about in England furniture reviews is the great selection of fabrics and designs available. Consumers love the detail and style available. An England Furniture sofa stands out in its delicate beauty and uniqueness. Whether you go for traditional, transitional, modern contemporary, or casual styles, you will also be impressed with the breadth of design at your fingertips. Leather or fabric, dark or light, floral, plaid, argyle, or solid…what room would not look exquisite with so many decorative options?

At the England Furniture website, it is easy to browse through their various pieces, fabrics, styles, and furniture covers. They even have a room planner software to help you decide what pieces can, or should, go where.
The England Furniture Co. raves its own quality. Their hardwood frames are supposed to be of superior quality. Self repairing zippers and custom comfort cushions are features that any consumer would appreciate. Cushions are built to last, without squeaking and without sagging. Even more than that, England Furniture says that they have the best warranties in the furniture industry.
The problem arises when you read a negative England Furniture review. You read one, you’re inclined to read them all, and reviews seem to say that this furniture does not live up to the standard it set for itself. Most England Furniture complaints rag on the sagging cushions and tearing upholstery. Cushions get replaced numerous times, generally with hesitation and difficulty from the company. Though you can expect exaggeration in any complaining review, cushion wear within a few months should not be acceptable. What is reassuring? At least hardwood frames seem to last through it all. And the cushions do get replaced.
Your local England Furniture dealer might try to sell you by reminding you that the well known LazyBoy makes England Furniture. It’s more likely that LazyBoy just owns the company. Whether LazyBoy owns it or makes it, they can make different quality lines under different names for different prices. Until you stop hearing about more England Furniture complaints than customer endorsements and get some better reports on these designs, it may be better to hang in there. The bottom line is that before I would invest in furniture from this company I would want to hear enough positive England Furniture reviews to make me forget about all of the negative ones.

I purchased an England Furniture Sofa on Dec 19th. Already the fabric on the cushions is splitting in several places. Obviously the fabric is really poor (although it seems ok in the store). Now we are stuck in a cycle of replacing cushions over and over again. The attached back cushions are also starting to have issues. I wish I would have done some research before I bought this POS. I relied on it being part of Lazboy. England Furniture does not list contact information (phone) on their website, I did some research and got a phone number 423 626 5211 and have left messages with Bill Woods (I believe that this is a dummy voice mailbox that no one ever listens to – at least no one calls back). It appears that there is a history of this company selling poor quality products, hopefully posting this will help someone else making the same mistake I made.
Lance – I’m a furniture dealer who is reseaching England as a potential line. You may have save a lot of people. I won’t be dealing for them.
I would like to post an update to the Fabric Quality complaint I entered about England Furniture. Bill Woods does work for the company. I am now waiting for a replacement sofa, that will be covered in a different fabric. At some point in the future I should have a better idea regarding the quality of the replacement sofa.
More details of the process below:
Mr Woods did get back to me and indicated I had to work with my dealer and that they would stand behind their 1 year fabric warranty by replacing cushions etc.. during the 1 year fabric warranty period. I was not satisfied with this. The entire sofa is covered in the same fabric, the fabric has a problem. Replacing the cushions 1 at a time was not a long term option. I was concerned that other portions of the sofa that experienced less wear that the seating areas would start to fall apart after the 1 year warranty period has expired. My concerns regarding this were responded to by saying that England would stand by the 1 year fabric warranty.
I escalated the problem. I posted my complaint on this website, I filled out the email contact form on England’s website (I had called initially), and I contacted the Better Business Bureau. Mr Sawyer from England did send me an email indicating that my problem would be resolved.
Eventually I was given three options: keep getting the cushions replaced as they developed issues during the 1 year fabric warranty period, get an identical replacement sofa covered in the same fabric, or get an identical sofa covered in different fabric. A refund was not an option. We choose option 3: identical sofa, different fabric. Our dealer showed us the available fabrics and narrowed our choices down to roughly 20 as the rest were deemed to be “for pillows” or he did not believe that they would hold up to use on a sofa. Perhaps our dealer wanted to make sure that there was as small a chance as possible that we would have another fabric issue, but having your choice of fabric’s narrowed from approx 360 to 20 due to concerns about the fabric holding up was surprising and also really limited out options. We did pick out a fabric, and will be getting a replacement sofa.
It does appear that England is responsive to complaints. I am surprised that they read the complaints on this website. While England Furniture has indicated to the Better Business Bureau that they have resolved my BBB complaint I have not yet accepted the case being closed – I as of yet do not have a sofa.
An issue with many purchases that you expect to last for several years is that it is very difficult to determine good quality from bad quality. So while it was easy to see the poor fabric quality of the initial sofa I received, it will hopefully take a few years to determine that it’s replacement is a quality product.
I hope my issue has been resolved.
YOU CANNOT TAKE A COMPANY WITH NO CONSCIOUS TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU YOU NEED SMALL CLAIMS COURT AND ASK FOR YOUR MONEY BACK. I do not know a lot about fabric’s but I do know that like cars, some are better than others and you pay more for better ones. It is a concern that or at least to me, if a manufcturer only covers a product (Fabric) for one year. This can only mean that it is a lower grade fabric, like most people, I would expect a fabric on a sofa to last at least 5 years of normal use without looking to shabby at the end of the five years. If any manufacture offers a better warranty with another fabric it may be well worth spending a little extra. None the less, nothing should fall apart within a few months of use and if that is the case, if I were a manufacture I would not even offer it to the public. Today North American manufactures are trying to compete with off shore manufactures, this is very hard to do and corners are probably cut in order to stay competative, the course should be quality product, not price, this is how NA manufactures can compete.
We as consumers need to be willing to pay a little extra for quality, especilly if it means local jobs.
We purchased an England brand sofa 3 years ago, and with daily use, it has held up beautifully. I do recall that when selecting fabrics, the salesperson pointed out the different grades of fabric and noted the ones that were better for chairs and sofas. Maybe your salesperson failed you in this area. My parents have a leather England sofa, and it has held up for 6+ years.
In addition to the quality, it appeals to me that this company is located in the US, and hires American workers. I was in the store yesterday, and saw an England Rocker/Recliner that would go with our couch. Very tempting. I would not hesitate to buy another piece of furniture from this maker.
I bought a Rochelle Three Cushion sofa 5 years ago. So far I have had no problem with the fabric. I found this site while trying to find a white cover for it, just because I would like to have a white sofa. One of my cats recently died, before she did she urinated on the sofa twice. I had to take off the seat cushions, wash them with Dawn detergent, dry them and put them back on. I had no problem with no shrinkage although the label said not to wash. (Not an option in my case.) I just wanted to post a different side.
I purchased furniture from England in the Toledo. Oh area. Approximately 6 minths later they closed. I first ordered a sectional sofa. Around 6 months later I ordered a nother regular sofa, and a chair. I thought the chair leg looked funny, but i did not say anything. After a few months the chair leg is loose and stripped. I am sure this was made by a careless person, and you can’t even sit in it anymore. I called Bill England and he said he needed the sales receipt. I could not find it. At this point I would buy a leg just so we can use the chair again. How do you do this? Really England furniture? The cushions on the couch back are so droopy, the fabric is terrible, and the cushions are shot! The sofa is fine, and is much better than the chair or the sectional.
