Dorm Bedding Basics
Bedding is always an expression of your personality. And there’s no truer example of that when you’re dealing with teenagers. If you have a teen going off to college dorm bedding is likely to be the number one most important purchase after getting their wardrobe revamped.
If you thought that you could get by with sending off one of those flowered sheet sets in your linen closet that nobody uses, think again. Your teen simply won’t even hear about it. (Trust me, I know from experience) The right dorm room bedding is vital– it has to be cool, it has to be hip, it has to be prefect (just like your teen, right?).
When shopping for bedding for dorm room, try to make it simple for yourself. The first thing is to see if you can find a good dorm bed in a bag. In fact, you can often find clearance bed in a bag sets in a wide range of colors and styles, so it’s possible that your teen might be satisfied with the cheapest and easiest option available.
If prepackaged dorm bedding sets don’t pass muster, then you will have to head over to the single sheets and see what you can do from there. Style will obviously be the first thought on your teen’s mind, while expensive is foremost in yours. If you’re looking for cheap dorm bedding while your teen is insisting on silk or satin sheets, remember that you have the power of veto– as long as you’re paying, that is.
Designs will depend on your teen’s gender and personality. If your daughter is very girly, then cute dorm bedding with flowers or small furry animals might be what she wants. For a boy, camouflage bedding might be a better choice. If for some reason you find yourself given the formidable task of buying dorm bed sheets without your teen alongside to give input, denim is always a safe option.
If the search for the perfect dorm bed sets is getting on your nerves, relax (wait– is it the actual shopping, or your teen? Hmm…). It’s easy to understand why dormitory bedding is high on a self-conscious teen’s priority list, and while you might feel that textbooks are a bit more important, try to be patient with your teen. Soon, you teen will be off at college, along with his or her ultra cool dorm bedding. And then you’ll probably be willing to take all of the angst, hormones, and insanity, just to have your baby back again (I mentioned I was talking from experience, right?).
