Round Outdoor Area Rugs And Other Outdoor Decorating Ideas

An outdoor living space is really just an extension of your home; when you create an outdoor living room you are essentially adding a room onto your home.  You may use this room for entertaining friends and family, or you may just use it as your personal retreat.  Either way, your outdoor space should be a comfortable, relaxing place.  There are many furniture and accessory choices available that will allow you to decorate this space in any style you choose.  Consider little touches like round outdoor area rugs or colorful throw pillows to make it seem more like an indoor room.

Round rugs are unique. They give a warm and creative feeling that is hard to achieve with the classic rectangle that most area rugs come in. By placing one in your garden or patio sitting area, you’ll make your outdoor environment so much more inviting.

You’ll also want to think about color. Red rugs are a classic choice, and can work beautifully with wrought iron patio furniture. Purple area rugs, while unusual, can look especially striking in a green area, and if you have blue, purple, orange, or yellow flowers in your garden, this can be a choice that you’ll be thrilled with in the long run.

You can further go about decorating your outdoor space by choosing furniture that best suits your needs; think of the amount of space you have and whether that space is protected from the elements.  Outdoor furniture is usually made of weather resistant materials, however, if the area is not covered, you may want to think of storing cushions when they are not in use, so they are not left in the rain.  Arranging the outdoor furniture is another consideration; think about traffic flow and arrange the furniture in a way that will allow easy maneuverability and conversation.  If you have enough space, set them up around your round outdoor area rug for a lovely arrangement. If you already have outdoor furniture, you can update the look with new slipcovers, cushions or just some colorful throw pillows. For inexpensive options, shop at a patio cushions clearance sale.

Lighting and accessories are an important part of an outdoor room; lighting will allow you to use the outdoor space after the sun goes down and accessories can make it more comfortable and cozier.  Consider what the area is going to be used for when choosing lighting; if the space is just for relaxing in the evenings candles or holiday lights can create a tranquil atmosphere.  If you are using the space for outdoor dining or playing family games, you may need more light than candles provide.  There are many choices for outdoor lighting from wall sconces to weather resistant table and floor lamps.  Accessories can make a big difference in an outdoor room, an outdoor rug can make the floor warmer and add color to the décor; warm throws can allow you to snuggle up when cooler weather comes and still enjoy the outdoors.

There are many things you can do to make your outdoor living space comfortable and useful.  Simply rearranging the furniture and adding some accessories may make all the difference in the world.  If you are starting from scratch, some prior planning and research will make your decisions easier; and allow you to have an outdoor area you will enjoy for years to come.

A White Leather Chesterfield Sofa For Modern Elegance

Creating the right effect in a room always takes some thorough consideration. Many times it means thinking out of the box and innovating with the unusual. Using a white leather Chesterfield sofa to create a streamlined, modern effect is a perfect example of this. The Chesterfield sofa has always had a classic and almost old-fashioned presence, quite the opposite of the sleek modern look that we are aiming for in this article.

The important factor here is the color. Color might be just one aspect — and a seemingly minor one — of the furniture and accent pieces we choose for our home. But the truth is that color has a greater impact than we realize, it actually defines the object in question.

Leather Chesterfield SofaClassic Chesterfield sofas have always come in shades of dark leather. Black, brown and burgundy are the most common choices. A weathered beige or honey brown are also popular options, but it really doesn’t get any lighter than that. Which is why white is such an unusual choice for this classic settee. And once you take away the expected color choices, leather Chesterfield sofas cease to be an old-fashioned, heavy piece of furniture, and can become an integral part of a modern, chic setting.

Let’s take a look at how you can make this work. We’ll start in the living room, the first place we think of using leather sofas.

Pair a white leather Chesterfield chair and sofa set with a black or white shag rug. A zebra rug is another great alternative. In fact, there are so many different options when it comes to area rugs, that you’ll find that you can completely redesign the tone of the room, just by changing the rug. To emphasize the beauty of your white leather sofa, make sure to add several white accent pieces to the room. A white floor lamp and a ceramic vase are great choices. Don’t go overboard with this or you’ll overpower the room, but a few well-thought out choices can be extremely effective.

The home office is another room that can benefit from a white leather Chesterfield sofa bed, especially if you want to convert it into a guest room. If you have a white computer desk already, you’re one step ahead of the game, and finding a small white dresser that will blend well is an easy task. Pick one or two bright accent colors, such as red and purple, and use them for the rest of the room’s decor. For example, look for purple area rugs that will fit about a foot under the sofa and rest of the furniture, and drape a small red and purple brocade scarf or table runner over the dresser.

Similar effects can be reproduced in other rooms of the home by using white Chesterfield chairs. While a sofa of this sort is an extremely large item and simply won’t work in an area without a lot of floor space, a white Chesterfield chair can fit beautifully into most rooms without overtaking the rest of the furnishings.

Deck The House With Zebra Print Rugs

Perhaps you’ve always loved the look, but never thought you could afford it. But don’t think that just because you don’t have a couple of thousand dollars to invest in a real hide zebra rug means that you have to forgo the chic and modern look these rugs offer. There are cheap zebra print rugs available in stores and online for every budget, taste, and room. Let’s take a look at some of the less expensive options that you can take advantage of to bring the thrill of the wild into your home.

First of all, lets start small. If you really have a tight budget the best venue for you might be to look at some zebra print bathroom rugs. These are generally synthetic and with much smaller dimensions than the type of large zebra area rug you’d probably want to get for your living room.

Zebra Print Rugs
But you can also have the most fun with these. A bathroom makeover is easy, especially if you start off with a set of zebra print bath rugs, hand towels, and toilet lid cover. Aside from this, a light switch cover and an inexpensive wallpaper border are basically all you need. Give the walls a fresh coat of white paint if they’re another color, so that the room doesn’t get overwhelming, and you’re all set. You can even take a black wastebasket and add some of the extra wallpaper border to the top to complete the look. And you’ve got a complete bathroom makeover at minimal cost!

Lets move onto the bedroom. This time, you can step away from the classic black and white that most people associate with zebra rugs. Instead, if you have wood tones or other soft colors in your room, look for brown zebra print rugs for sale. These brown and beige area rugs can fit into a room’s current decor much more easily, since they have a softer and less outspoken look. If your bedroom is more simple in terms of decorations, adding a mosquito net bed canopies can give the room the feel of the jungle without going overboard.

You can really use zebra print area rugs in just about any room in your home. In the kid’s room, it’s a fun and playful addition. In the kitchen, a small, stripped, fabric or even rubber floor mat can liven things up a lot. Be creative, and don’t limit yourself to placing a zebra print rug in the living room or dining room, although it can certainly work beautifully there.

So don’t think that your only option is to splurge on an authentic zebra skin rug. If you love those zany stripes but can’t afford the real thing, chose one of the more inexpensive options, and enjoy.

A Zebra Area Rug Brings Home The Serengeti

One of the great things about decorating your home is that there are so many different options. You can take just a few items, some paint and creativity, and create a complete environment with it’s own moods and ambiance. If you want to create the feel of a warm, wild, and happening desert, then a brown zebra area rug is your starting point.

Brown area rugs are better for this theme than the classic black you might first imagine, for a couple of reasons. One, you want to have a warm feeling, and brown will help you achieve that more than the cool effect that you’d get with a white and black striped zebra rug. But in case you’re wondering if you’re sacrificing authenticity for decor, don’t worry. There are indeed brown zebras, and if you choose a zebra skin rug in shades of brown and beige, you’ll be doing just fine.

Zebra Area RugThe next consideration is furniture. If you’re starting from scratch, then a brown leather lounge set is just the thing. If you’re getting a rectangular rug, you’ll want to go for a larger size, such as 8×10 or 9×13 so that the sofas and chairs can all sit on the edge of the rug comfortably. Or, you might want to get a smaller zebra print area rug in the shape of the animal itself. Since the shape is what makes this rug so unique, you won’t want to have any parts of it under furniture, so make sure that you choose one which will leave at least one to two feet of empty floor space all around. If you have corner sofas instead, this can also be the perfect type of zebra area rugs for your home.

Next, you’ll want to chose some accent pieces that add to the effect. Wood is just the thing, and having some carved wooden boxes and an African style table lamp can add to the room in ways that you might not expect before hand. Even if you prefer more modern and less “real” looking zebra rugs, your best bet for an accent piece is something that looks authentic.

If you have other textiles in the room, such as a throw blanket, decorative pillow, or fabric lamp shades, you can use some other animal print designs as well. Leopard or giraffe patterns can go beautifully, but don’t go overboard as you want your zebra print rug to remain the focal point in the room.

Make sure to keep the lighting in the room warm, and add some gold touches if possible to mimic the effect of the sunrays hitting the sand. You’ve now got a warm, Serengeti inspired living room — and who would have thought that it all started with those zebra print rugs?

A Zebra Print Rug For Every Room

What’s black and white and stylish all over? A square, rectangular, or round zebra print rug, that’s what! For a touch of home decor that’s all the rage, no matter what room you’re decorating, a zebra rug is just the thing. And to be honest, there’s no reason that you have to limit yourself to black and white. These stunning area rugs come in just about every color under the sun, making them a super-simple, easy-to-add touch to any room in your home.

Take brown zebra print rugs for starters. If your living room or den is decorated in warm shades, a zebra area rug can be just the thing to add a bit of pizazz, without jarring the effect you’ve already created. Most cream and brown zebra rugs will look perfect with a brown leather sofa, and adding brown curtains will complete the picture easily.

For a completely different look, consider adding a shocking pink zebra print rug to your teenage daughter’s room. There’s nothing subtle about this addition. Camouflage bedding in the same shade of pink and a dangling bead curtain will create a teenage hideaway that will be the envy of all of her friends.

Zebra Print RugLets not forget the bathroom! If your bathroom is a bit on the bland side, there’s nothing like a zebra print bath rug and toilet cover set to make any extended pit stops a bit more exciting. You can even find matching fabric shower curtains that fit the zebra theme, or decorate the room with other animal prints for a bit of variety. Just make sure it doesn’t become too busy, or you’ll find yourself wishing you never got started with all the stripes.

Shapes also make a difference. There are zebra print area rugs in just about any size you could wish for, so don’t think you have to stick to a rectangular rug just because that’s the classic rug shape. You can get a round, oval, square, or irregular shaped rug, and even a long carpet runner if you want to put your African addition in the hallway or on your stairs.

One of the most popular shapes for a zebra skin rug is the “off the animal’s back” shape, which has a tail and four legs, and sometimes even a head. If you want a real conversation piece for your living room, this shape will definitely do the job, but there is nothing subtle about it.

Whatever room in your home you’re looking to give a makeover to, a zebra print area rug can definitely do the job. Think out of the box and have fun decorating!

A Faux Zebra Skin Rug Beats Its Authentic Alternative

If you’re looking for a way to really make a statement in a room, then there’s almost nothing that can do the job as well as a real zebra skin rug. But while you’ll definitely achieve a level of home decor that’s magazine ready, you’ll be paying a pretty penny for that black and white centerpiece, not to mention very likely ruffling a few feathers. If you have any animal rights activists living under your roof, or even in your social circle, be prepared to take some pretty heavy flack for your new acquisition.

But you do have a great alternative available to you. There are all kinds of zebra rugs on the market, and you don’t need to splurge for a controversial, authentic zebra skin rug. There are many imitations on the market that can do the job quite well, some of which are so high quality that you’ll be hard pressed to tell the difference.

In fact, there are quite a few side benefits to looking at a faux zebra skin rug for sale, as opposed to the real thing. For one, there is the price, as we’ve already mentioned. Authentic zebra skin rugs at “trophy grade” can cost as much as $2000, while a faux imitation of the same size will likely be just a few hundred dollars.

Zebra Skin RugAnother benefit that’s worth considering is the maintenance. If washable rugs are your pace, then you should definitely think twice before buying a real hide zebra rug. It will need delicate professional washing, and if you don’t care for it right it simply won’t last very long. Of you opt for a less expensive and more hardy man-made zebra print rug, you’re likely to find that it’s so much easier to keep looking and smelling great, particularly if it’s in a high traffic area.

And then of course there’s the conscience factor. It’s sometimes hard to imagine in advance, if you’re not the kind of person to think twice about leathers and furs. But while animal lovers will often overlook your new leather handbag or shoes, a striking zebra area rug that looks like it just came off of an animal’s back is something that can feel like a punch in the belly to someone who really does care. Area rugs, no matter how attractive, are something that few people want to lose a friendship over.

All in all, faux zebra print rugs can make just as much a home fashion statement as the real thing. If these gorgeous white and black rugs are what you’ve had your mind on, definitely consider a synthetic version over the authentic animal hide.

Room Divider Panels to Outdoor Privacy Screens: Ways to Create Privacy in the Home

Your home is a place where you should feel comfortable. Yet somehow most people will say that there is at least one place in their home where they could use a bit more privacy. Maybe it’s a shared bedroom or a neighbor’s yard that is a little too close for comfort. The good news is that there are a few simple ways to solve privacy problems and create a space where you can truly feel at home. From setting up a room divider to adding the right curtains to outdoor privacy screens, there are seemingly endless solutions at hand.

One of the most important things you can do to create more privacy in the home is to use window coverings. Mini blinds and traditional curtains work well for this purpose, but they don’t allow light to pass through so if sunlight is important to you, you may want to look into other options. If you have a lovely view, you might think it is a shame to obscure it. There are a few options that might work in this case, such as tinted window film, sheer drapes, or lace curtains.

The shower is another place where most people would prefer not to have observers. If you have a window in your shower, you should cover it. The problem is that curtains and other window coverings can grow mildew pretty quickly when placed in a wet environment. Moreover, most showers need the extra light the window provides so homeowners are hesitant to cover the window. The best solution is to replace the shower window with glass block. Glass block lets the light in but ensures that no one will be able to view you while you are bathing.

If you share a room with someone, there may be times when you wish you were alone. Sometimes building a dividing wall isn’t an option, especially if you’re renting. Also, the layout of doors in the room can often prevent this. A room divider is a great way to split up a space in a temporary way. You can create privacy for yourself while still being able to pass when necessary. When your roommate isn’t around, you can simply fold the divider out of the way to enjoy a more spacious feel.

Even if your home is very private inside, once you step into the yard those feelings of privacy could quickly change. Many houses are situated in a way that makes their yard too close to the neighbor’s yard. If one of you has an elevated yard, a privacy fence may not be enough to obstruct the view. Outdoor privacy screens can go a long way toward creating your own space for alone time. A simple screen can be placed and moved as needed. For example, you can place a screen or two right in the line of sight of your nosy neighbor’s favorite yard chair. People with pools might want to place them around the pool to enjoy privacy while sunbathing. It’s a cheaper and easier solution than fencing the entire yard.

No one wants to worry about other people watching them when they are relaxing at home. With these simple solutions, your home can become the private sanctuary that it should be.

Home Wall Painting Techniques

There are practically unlimited wall painting techniques that you can use around your house, such as color washing, sponging, stenciling, and splatter painting. Below you’ll find details on two of the more contemporary and attractive techniques, known as combing, leathering, and faux painting. You can find many more at the  web site. Some will be better fits for your home than others, but the most important thing is the inspiration and enjoyment of improving your home.

Combing

Combing is a pretty lined touch to a painted surface which looks like a wallpaper. This is done by painting the wall with the base coat and a different colored glaze. You can accomplish this by painting the base coat in the wall and let it dry. Paint the colored glaze in the wall and then drag the comb through the wet paint once to make a trail of comb lines. If you don’t like the result you can repaint it and try again.

You can be creative by dragging the comb in horizontal or vertical lines, twist it back and forth to create wavy lines or any other patterns that you want to create.

Leathering

Leathering is the most easy and less expensive way to get a leather look on your walls. You can just use a scrap paper like newspaper or brown bags. Tear the papers into different sizes and shapes. Paste them to the wall to some extent overlying each other. Compress firmly to the wall to avoid bubbles. When all surface is covered with paper let it dry before painting it with glaze.

Faux Bricks or Stone

Your wall can look like a stone or brick with just the use of paint and a few rolls of tape. Paint the walls with a base color and let it dry for twenty-four hours so that when you put the tape it won’t damage the surface. A painter’s tape is use to outline the shapes of the stones or bricks. When the taping is done, paint the walls with the base color of the stones and bricks. Take off the tape before the paint dries to show the lines. Sponge on a mixture of paint into parts of the stone or brick to highlight them.

If you like the idea of getting creative with painting your home’s walls, you may want to learn more.  These are just a few of the home painting techniques that you can try.  There are many online art schools that teach painting techniques for walls that can offer more assistance in this area.  It’s worth looking into.

Curtain Ideas to Suit Your Needs

One of the easiest ways to spice up the look of a room is to add or to change your existing window curtains. Curtains are used to make your windows and house look attractive. Creative curtain ideas abound, but before you choose the design you want to use on your windows there are a few factors you need to consider so that you get the most out of your choice. The first thing you will have to look at is the fabric. There are different types of fabric that curtains are made from and you should choose one carefully so that it coordinates with your furniture and so that it suits the purpose you are hanging curtains for be it for a decorative purpose, for privacy or to block out light. Make sure you choose a strong fabric so that it can serve you for a long time. Light fabrics are more decorative while heavy fabrics do a better job providing privacy and blocking out light.

Another thing you should look at is the color of the curtain. Make sure you choose a color that will blend in well with your room décor so that your curtains jive with the overall look. While you won’t want to put lime green curtains in a sophisticated and toned down room, they’ll be perfect in a livelier and more vibrant setting.  There are also different shades of the same color and therefore you should choose the shade the accentuates your furnishings. You should also make sure that the curtains are of the appropriate size so that they can do the job they are intended to do. For decorative purposes you may want to choose short curtains or even just valances but these types will not provide privacy or diminish early morning light if that is what you are trying to accomplish.

Some of the curtains design ideas that you can use for you home are: straight curtains which are plain curtains that can work for all situations. You can also use curtains that are tied back with interesting ties that accentuate the look. Some ideas are silk scarves or decorative ropes. These ties can either be at the top or at the bottom of the curtain. You can also use ties that drape around the floor for full length curtains. If you just want to spice up the look of your current curtains you can add curtain finials to the end of the curtain rod. Curtain finials are decorative pieces that attach to each end of the curtain rod. They are available in many different shapes and designs and can add a very unique element to any curtains.

There are endless curtain design ideas out there.  Take the time to find the one that will turn your curtains into masterpieces!

When it comes to choosing the bathroom mirror, the lighting can be an important key. You must keep in mind that the lighting in your bathroom can make or break your reflection. There is no point of buying an expensive artsy mirror that is placed in a bathroom with poor lighting.

Thus, it is significant to make sure that your bathroom is equipped with a lot of light. This will make your reflection look as good as it is supposed to be. If you have a lot of time on your hands, you can always go for classy mirrors with amazing frames. Cleaning these classy and decorative mirrors may be challenging, but at the end of it all, a clean artsy mirror on your lavatory wall will make your hard work worthwhile.

How to Choose Between Brown Curtains

A room is not just a room. What you place in this space will really say a lot about how people feel when they walk in and experience it themselves. This is why it is so important to really take the time to consider which brown curtains to invest in. The right set can really make a space seem much larger than it is and can add something unique to the room. Spend the time on this investment so that you choose curtains that suit your taste and the room’s dimensions and feel. The following are some things to keep in mind when selecting which brown curtains should be in your home or office.

First, think about the look you are going for. There is a big difference between brown curtains and a pink and brown curtain. Take the time to think about whether you want to go for a light brown option or if you want to select a deep rich chocolate brown curtain. The sky is the limit when it comes to the shade or pattern you choose for this item. You have to decided if you want your space to have a homey feeling or a modern aesthetic. For example, you will make your selections differently if you are looking to furnish a home office that will received clientele or if you are planning a redesign of your master bedroom.

Next, consider the fabric. Window treatments today are made out of a variety of materials or fabrics. This is why you should try and experience or shop for such items in person. A curtain may look differently in person than in a catalog or website. You can find such accents in heavy materials like wool or you can find them in luxurious fabrics like silk. When choosing the materials, think about the look of the curtains, what their upkeep will be, and whether or not they suit the rest of the room.

Lastly, think about the size of the window in question and the style of the curtains. Curtains are a lot like clothing: If they are too big or too small, then they will no doubt be unflattering. Take the time to measure your window’s dimensions so that you can be sure that the curtains truly fit this piece of the room. Think about how often you plan to open and close the curtains, too, so that you can see if the desired models will work.

Wall Decor For Children’s Rooms

Decorating your children’s rooms is a fun activity but can also be a challenge. We all have ideas of how a room should look and what the best wall decor ideas are, but we want the kids to be happy as well. And with children, safety is always a big concern, and here are some factors to consider:

Children’s health should be given the highest priority. Make sure that the paints, finishers, and other materials you use are as non-toxic as possible in order to avoid putting their health at risk. Due to consumer demand and environmental concerns, there are now several companies that manufacture non-toxic and low toxic paints and finishers.

Ideally, you want paints that are zero VOC, and thankfully, the list of companies offering them is steadily growing. AFM Safecoat, Ecoshield, Green Planet Paints, The Real Milk Paint Company, and Yolo are some examples (I have used Yolo and was very happy with the results). If you can’t find a zero VOC paint you like, or find them too expensive (they are pricey), the next best thing is low VOC. Examples include Benjamin Moore Aura, Cloverdale EcoLogic and Devoe Paints.

When designing the room, don’t forget that it should suit the child’s personality and interests. Have your kids add some personal touches. When it comes to choosing the paint colors, consult them and let them decide. Let them personalize the wall decor using stickers, murals, borders, add their own handprints or even paint scenery. Allow them to be creative and play with their imagination and be the little artists that they can be. Remember, it is very easy to paint over just about anything!

You may also want to add something educational. You can have the map of the world painted on the walls or an integrated blackboard wall using chalkboard paint where they can write or draw whatever they want (to make it even more versatile, use a magnetic primer). You can put glow in the dark stickers of the solar system on the walls or ceiling. These may help develop their interests in geography and science.

Having a message board is also a good idea. A framed corkboard may not sound like very exciting wall decoration, but it can be used as an inspiration board or to display rotating art exhibits. And they’re practical too – you can put notes on the board such as reminders, to-do lists, and even simple notes telling them you love them.

You can also paint part of the wall with magnetic paint which makes displaying artwork and school projects easy. Or you could put up magnetic alphabets, numbers etc. Another creative idea is to paint magnetic game boards on the wall. Growth charts can also be added.

It is almost impossible to run out of ideas when it comes to decorating our children’s rooms (especially if you ask them!). Make your kids’ rooms a special place where they can be themselves and create fun childhood memories. Give them the space they need and let them have the ideal fantasy room they want. Decorating is so much fun, and when you involve the little ones, it becomes a great family project with a finished product that everyone feels part of and can show off with pride.

Creative Canopy Bed Curtains for Kids

Are canopy bed curtains for little girls only?  Not at all.  Canopy bed curtains for kids can be unisex, for the boys or even for older kids.  They’re, after all, an expressive medium for home decorators.

Canopy Beds for Kids

Before the curtains, the canopy.  If your kid sleeps in a four-poster bed, then it’s canopy-ready.  But you can make your own canopy.  Get your carpenter to suspend a large wooden frame that’s the same size as the bed from the ceiling.  Hang it with hooks.  Get curtain rods for all four sides. Tie them on the frame with velvet or silk rope after you place curtains on the rods.

Another canopy assembly uses a hula-hoop suspended from the ceiling with a hook to keep it in place over the bed.  Let curtains of sheer soft fabric billow down from the hoop to the bed.

You may also extend the headboard up with two poles. Then construct a cantilevered frame hanging from them reaching across to above the footboard. That, however, requires some intense measuring, a little engineering and lightwood.  You can only hang light fabric from them.

Canopy Curtains for Kids

Use light or heavy drapery or mix up the two. It would depend on the mood you’d like to create. Help your kid find textile prints that appeal to his interests.  Find interesting textured fabric. Use artistic wall hangings.  Or seashells in a fishnet. Kids canopy bed curtains are all about atmosphere.

Canopy Bed Curtains for KidsFor Your Princess

Your little girl probably first saw kids canopy beds in the movies.  So, let movies be the inspiration.  Take her shopping for curtains or fabric to make curtains from scratch.  Take some hints from Disney.  Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty readily come to mind. Go for something underwater for your little mermaid. Or try some Oriental-inspired motifs. It’s all up to your kid.  The whole idea is to create a space that shelters her inner fairy-tale character.  Of course, pink and gauzy will make her feel like a princess each time she wakes up.

Kids Bed Canopies for Little Boys

For little boys, a kids bed canopy can be hideout or Bat Cave. You can find ready to install kids canopy curtains or sew them from scratch.  Get imaginative. Get crafty.  Fabric glue some glow in the dark planets and stars on netting for your little astronomer.  Throw in some twinkling starlight on the netting.  Do a Hogwarts canopy for your little wizard. Make sure you match the beddings and bedroom area rugs for a total effect.  Try sporty themes with football goal posts holding up the canopy.

Let your imagination and your kids’ run wild with the endless possibilities that canopy bed curtains for kids offer.

Curtain Panels are Versatile Window Treatment Options

Using curtain panels for window treatments allows for many different options. Products come in many different fabrics and weights. You can choose insulated protects to help block the sun. Using these items in the winter also helps keep heat in. This helps keep energy costs under control.

Sheer drapery sections can be used to enhance an accent color in a room’s decor. They can be used under other draperies or over them. Of all products available, these are the most versatile. They can be used with a window scarf on top, in either a contrasting or coordinating color. The work well under highly decorative valances that are scalloped or rounded. They can also be used to fill in the space between two wider or heavier drapes, to allow some light into a room.

Some curtain panels  come as separate pieces, so you must purchase two. Others come in pairs, so you do not have to hunt for another piece. There are sets that include both drapes, ties and a valance. These ready made curtains make hanging window treatments much simpler. They are ideal for smaller windows or for a child’s room, where decorating options do not need to be as sophisticated in style.

Today there are double rods that are connected to a single end bracket. You can layer colors or a print and a solid, with such a device. You may choose to hang drapes with a coordinating valance on the outer rod. Regardless of how you configure your single draperies, there are many products available to help create the look you want. With so many options, you can get highly creative in putting together the drapery panels you want.

There are linen drapery items with a textured design, which helps liven up a window area and adds some interest to the room. Lace drapery items in a solid color can help bring out a shade that is less obvious in print draperies.

Lace adds a touch of classic styling and works well with a country French decor.

Because there are so many options,  there are many different price ranges. Nearly anyone who wants to hang draperies can find something attractive or stylish. Bed and bath stores, retailers and discount stores all carry plenty of selections. Single pieces can be purchased for under $10 each. Sets with at least the two main sections can often be found for under $15. Newer fabrics used in these items include microfiber, which is lightweight but helps keep a room warm.

Croscill Curtains For Stunning Home Decor

When it comes to the creme of the crop, Croscill curtains are a prime example. Croscill is a premium interior and home decoration company that specializes in bedding, curtains,  drapes and accessories. It is a renowned company, formed in 1945, and has grown into a major force in the home textile industry.  Croscill bedding is often said to be the best in its class.  Croscill is credited for being the first producer of the decorative comforter.  They also invented smocked curtains.

One of the most important features in completing the way a room looks is to choose the right drapes for the windows. Croscill drapes are well measured and tailored. It is often seen that after fully furnishing a room, people tend to pay less attention to the material of the drapes. The fabrics used in making these drapes are of the highest quality. They are pretty thick and generally, they are able to keep out the outside lights, which may otherwise compromise the privacy of a room. The drapes are made of materials especially designed to keep out the heat from the sun, the drapes thus help in keeping the room cool. However, in certain cases, customers might want drapes which allow light through them. Such curtains are also available in the market; the colors used in these curtains are of lighter shades.

Shower curtains are one of the many products that Croscill offers. Shower curtains are required to keep the water from spreading to other areas of the bathroom floor and they make the bathroom appear well maintained. Croscill shower curtains are made of pure polyesters; the products are highly reliable and have longevity. The curtains are extremely convenient to use and can be machine washed, thus they have a pretty low maintenance cost. The curtains come in all designs and colors, and can be customized to suit the color coding of a bathroom. If the paint of the bathroom walls needs to be changed, a differently colored curtain may help obtain a completely different look. Tiled floors may require printed and patterned curtains that complete the overall look, the company offers a wide range of such printed curtains.

Bedding accessories are paid attention to and there are products which are so well sewn and finished that they give the illusion of alligator skin. These designs are less vivid than other similar animal prints available in the market and yet they retain a cool sense of fashion. Often whole ensembles are provided, including matching Croscill bedroom curtains, which add the necessary elegance and charm to a dull bedroom. The ultimate look is extremely contemporary and yet has a classic dimension to it.

When it comes to revitalizing your home with top quality textiles, a Croscill curtain set or new bedding is simply the way to go.

Croscill Brings You Home Fashion Highs

If you are looking for high standard home fashion and design products, you have probably already realized that while there are a plethora of designers to choose from, a few names come up again and again. Over fifty years ago, the Croscill valance design took window treatments to a new level of style and quality. Since then, Croscill Home has been a leader in innovative and fresh home fashion. Between their bed, bath, and window ideas, you will be sure to find something that you like.

Top of the line, and beautiful to boot, Croscill bedding includes numerous styles, patterns, and textures to choose from. Their “alligator” collections are textured by intricate sewing techniques and pound with character. Their Blanca collection contains the standard florals and pastels, with ultimate comfort and wide selection. Look to other Croscill Bed collections to allow you to choose from elegant, whimsical embellishments and dramatic wilderness scenes.

CroscillThe delicate accents in your bathroom, at the Jacuzzi, or in the home sauna are guaranteed to make the difference between simple and “drab” to true high class. Croscill bath offers you everything from toothbrush holders to soap dispensers to towels and shower curtains. You can buy sets that match perfectly, or create your own accents with a personal creative touch. From sophistication to elegance to urban to natural and organic, the designer in you might lose herself entirely. But in the ultimate choice, your personality can speak out.

That original valance design over five decades ago made the Croscill curtain fairly famous. Over the years, Croscill curtains continue that name to fame. The curtains and window treatments are this company’s greatest achievement. The selection, quality, and design, will make you and your home feel like royalty. Beads, heavy curtains, sheer shades, and valances…there is no shortage. If you like extensive, intricate detail, look to their Carlisle. For organic patterns, discover Belmont. Delancey curtains are designed specifically for casual living environments. The real question is where to begin.

Of course, you can also bring many of the Croscrill accessories into other rooms of your house. A contemporary soap dispenser or Kleenex container might jazz up your kitchen counter. That funky Croscill pillow might work wonders to liven up the living room recliner. Let the company’s quality and design bring your home design to new heights.

The last word of advice: if you know what you’re looking for in Croscill collections, try to buy online at eBay and Amazon. You’ll have access to incredible discounts. And if you can make a great deal on great quality…well, that’s what we call value.

Southwest Area Rugs: Desert Designs

Southwest area rugs add a splash of character to any floor.  These distinctive designs reflect the traditions of the American Southwest: from native American tribes and Spanish missionary contacts. The motifs curiously resemble some Middle Eastern design traditions.  But Southwest design area rugs come from unique cultural sources.

Navajorug

This company’s products feature Southwest design rugs that combine many traditional motifs.  These bold geometrics blend harmoniously.  Their area rugs are wonderful when used in a décor grouping.  They are perfect for hardwood or stone flooring.  These rugs add a touch of vibrant color and warm rustic charm to a room.

Patterns derive from Navajo symbolism.  You’ll find them on rugs used for instance in sweat lodges.  So they look at home in displays of other Navajo crafts such as pottery and baskets.

Southwest Area RugsNavajorug fine quality Southwest rugs are handmade on upright looms–the same type used by the Navajo in the early 1700s. The company has a collection showcasing historic weavings, many over a hundred years old. We truly are the ideal resource for novice and expert collectors of Southwest area and room-sized rugs.

Navajo rug Southwest throw rugs are an oxymoron.  These are items you wouldn’t want to throw away.  They appreciate in value through the years.  So these are precious family heirlooms.  Acquiring any of the company’s is exactly like making an investment in a piece of artwork.

Zapotec Rugs

Rugs by the Zapotecs are among the Southwest’s design classics. They grace many ranches, lodges, cabins and homes.  These are considered spirit rugs.  Designs come from nature and tribal motifs.  Traditionally, these rugs have been endowed with spiritual power. Red, blue, black, turquoise and green combine to make a pallet of powerful colors. But these Southwest wool rugs have an effect as tranquil as a desert morning.

Each Zapotec Southwest area rug is hand woven on a vertical wood-framed loom. In olden times, native American tribes even spun their own cotton thread.  Using a shuttle, different colored yarns are spun together into geometric masterpieces.

Addarug

This company’s collections feature Southwestern and Native American designs. The rugs in these groups are made of are 100% wool yarns. Some collections are machine-made.  While the designs are southwestern, these rugs are hand-tufted in China or India.  Rugs have a 1/2-inch yarn pile height and cotton backing. Some collections are thicker: hand-knotted with a 3/4-inch yarn pile height. The Modern collection of Southwest kitchen rugs is machine-made, using yarn in desert colors.

Southwest style area rugs are products of tradition and artistry. They’re the perfect touches of culture in any room.

Tropical Area Rugs Décor Themes

Tropical area rugs are hot and cool. They evoke the blazing temperatures of the equator and the tropics. They also bring to mind lagoons and windswept beaches as the perfect places to chill. The tropics are about the world’s oceans. So those tropical bathroom rugs remind the bather of tropical rainforests and storms. And tropical kitchen rugs bring the words luscious and luau to mind.

The tropics are an ocean-vast source of design themes for rug makers (and generations of artists for that matter). The word ‘tropical” instantly conjures exotic images of islands and seas on different continents. The Caribbean, the Indian and the Pacific Oceans are sources of tropical themes upon themes. The children among us even look beneath the surface of these bodies of water. They are enchanted by underwater settings and cartoon creatures. Sporty adults would prefer scuba or jet ski.

Tropical Area RugsProbably the best tropical rug is one woven from natural tropical materials. Sisal derived from Mexican maguey, Chinese jute or African coir rugs look great on decks or patios. These are even imported from actual tropical countries. Tropical rugs are wonderful souvenir. Synthetic fibers are used for durable area rugs. These are also printable surfaces, great material for tropical print area rugs. You’ll find rugs with prints as colorful as any Hawaiian shirt.

Practically all rug companies have collections with tropical themes. Many of these rugs can even function as indoor outdoor area rugs. Here are two which specialize exclusively in tropical design rugs.

The Indich Collection

Indich Collection, based in Hawaii is a direct importer with the largest inventory of Pacific weaves. Inspired by the beauty of Hawaii, theirs are among the world’s most artful hand-woven rug collections, from fine orientals to dhurries.

Since 1979, Indich Collection has been using traditional hand made techniques to produce the exclusive Hawaiian Rugs and Pacific Rim designs.

Blue Barnacles

The company has a large collection exploring tropical themes. There are patterns inspired by coastal harbors, nautical adventures, tropical paradises, shells, starfish, sand dollars and every manner of sea creature ever depicted on a tropical area rug.

Nautical, coastal or tropical themes are rendered on hand hooked rugs and braided rugs. Their tropical print rugs are perfect for beach cottages or fabulous for that seaside condo. Sea grass and sisal weaves are also available. The coastal theme shows lighthouses, shells, and shore birds. The tropical theme has palm trees and parrots. The beach theme has patterns with flip-flops and beach umbrellas. Sailboats, anchors, compasses grace the classic nautical home collection.

Tropical themes have a palette of exciting, pulsating colors. Using rugs with these designs can be a challenge. But with the very extensive collection of tropical area rugs, they are a decorator’s dream.

A Berber Area Rugs Primer

Berber area rugs were mentioned in a scientific study on the best space for relaxing. They defined it as a cozy study with a fireplace and some Berber rugs. The scientists determined that 98% of the entire population would consider that a very relaxing environment.

Decorators, on the other hand prescribe these rugs to create place of warmth and welcome, just like the scientists ordered. These rugs are synonymous with rugs so you find them beside many fireplaces. A Berber area rug creates an atmosphere and makes a fashion statement.  But the effect is approachable rather than snobbish. It spells welcome just like the rugs in Berber tents in the Sahara meant a respite.

How Berber Rugs Began

Berber Area RugsThe Berbers of Morocco first made these rugs. There are two types. The first type is the durable variety we see in offices and public places. It has a distinguished weave of dark earth-toned fibers on a pale background. The second type is the intricately wrought rug tourists take home from North Africa. The first type with its earth tones can add a no-nonsense look to office work areas as well as postmodern living rooms and high-traffic areas.  The second is an eye-catching conversation piece. The more ornate Berber area rugs are woven with loops that bind two different colors or fabrics in different layers using a weaving invented by the Berber.

Often made of high quality sheep’s wool, these rugs are known for their durability. To preserve the natural dyes and fibers of wool Berber rugs and carpets, they are best professionally cleaned. With proper care, a Berber rug lasts for generations.

Updating the Berber Area Rug

Today’s Berber carpet or rug is also made using synthetics such as nylon and olefin. Branded fibers such as Dupont Tactesse, Dupont Stainmaster, Solutia Weardated, Durasoft and Anso Caress are also used. Traditional weaving meets state-of-the-art fabrics.

Synthetics may be the better alternative to wool because of their ability to resist moisture. These machine-loomed carpets are even more durable for heavy-traffic areas in homes, offices, schools and hospitals.  Easy to wash, they may even be cleaned with bleach. Nonetheless, nothing compares with the elegance of original handmade woolen Berber area rugs. Of course, they cost much more.

Some manufacturers even use computer-generated patterns to improve on the traditional loop weaving method. These manufacturers carry extensive collections of traditional and updated Berber carpets and rugs.

Washable Rug Runners for Your Home

Washable rug runners protect wood and hardwood floors. For other types of floors, these rugs add charm and character.  Because of their unusual proportions, longer than wider, they’re made for specific parts of the house.  These are usually areas of heavy traffic.  So it’s great they’re easily washable.

Washable runners are either off the shelf or cut to size.  Which ever type you select the best means to choose one are proper measurements.  Measure the space they’re for.   For long narrow spaces, measure out two inches on each side from the edge to the wall.  Make sure they’re not too long.  Otherwise they’ll seem to be spilling out of the space.

One obvious place for a runner is the entranceway. Here, it becomes the home’s opening statement.  It’s the welcome piece signaling the décor to expect once one tours the rest of the house.  If your home décor says antique, an Oriental runner is the best choice.  If your house has the minimal, ultramodern look, a neutral-toned runner will look in place.  If there’s a retro-music look as house theme, why not a runner with a piano keys for the entrance?
The hallways that lead from one room to another are another spot. Here, make sure your runner has anti-slip rubber pads underneath so they’re safe.  Children love running in hallways.

washable rug runnersAnother area that calls out for a washable rug runner is the kitchen.  These are the shorter runner rugs you’ll want to place right in front of the sink counter to keep spills off the floor.  Or right next to the kitchen counter where you do cooking prep.  There are many coordinated kitchen area rugs collections. There are washable floor runners for right beside the bathtub, a welcome warm surface to step on after a bath on a cold day. Make sure the shower curtains match.

You can place a washable runner in the bedroom, too. Choose the shorter ones for either bedside or along the footboard.  Of course, there are those who would prefer the classier dry clean only rugs for this part of the house.

Washable carpet runners, fitted with the right attachments to secure them are best for stairways.  They add traction to wooden stairways, which may tend to be slippery.  Or they’ll add warmth to concrete stairways or marble ones if you live in a palace.

Runners traditionally came in wool.  But, in our time, there are olefin, polypropylene or nylon runners. These washable rugs stay in shape after washing. They’re colorfast as well and tend to last longer.  Since they’re cheaper than wool, synthetic-fiber rugs tend to be very inexpensive.

But for those who want it all natural, there are organic runners.  Bamboo, sisal, jute and cotton are also used to weave these rugs.

Washable runner rugs are meant for your home’s heavy traffic areas.  Good thing they’re washable.

Give Unique Area Rugs A Try

You might have always considered yourself to be a more traditional, run of the mill, go along with the crowd kind of person. The kind who doesn’t like to make waves, and will always order your favorite, tried-and-true dish when you eat out. But just because you think you’d rather go with the flow, doesn’t mean you should just stick to what you know when it comes to home decor. Try doing something a little different and you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised with the results. That’s my argument on why you should give unique area rugs a try.

Area rugs play an interesting role in home decor. At the same time, they are both focal points and background music. While many people want a rug to play a complementary role to their furnishings and artwork, going for a plainer or not so exciting rug can melt in too much with everything else, creating a rather monochromatic and boring look.

Adding a unique area rug to your home doesn’t mean that you have to do a complete back-flip as far as your current decor is concerned. But it can make your home come alive, look more sophisticated, and actually highlight the theme you’ve chose and are comfortable with. A slight contrast works wonders to this effect.

Unique Area RugsI’ll explain why you don’t have to step too far out of your comfort zone to accomplish this. Let’s say your home has a traditional look to it, a carved mahogany dining set, ornate gold frames on mirrors and pictures, and a crystal chandelier. Adding one or two unique Oriental rugs will fit right in with your current theme, but at the same time, be a step away from the norm. This will not only add class but make your home seem more up-scale. If you’re not so sure, think back to all those pictures of Victorian homes you’ve surely seen. The furnishings might have been in line with what you have, but there was always a touch of African or Oriental art floating around somewhere in the room. Being eclectic is a part of that design scheme that is often overlooked, but adding it in will take your home to another level.

But the truth is that you don’t have to invest in an expensive 9×12 or 8×10 area rug in order to see the effects that a unique rug can have. If you’d like to start smaller and cheaper, try playing around with some unique bath rugs as an alternative. There is so much less risk involved here, as these usually cost around $20, or even less, and you might have so much fun and be so pleased with the results that you won’t want to stop.

So give unique rugs a try. You can’t imagine in advance what a difference they’ll make, but once you experience how it enhances your home’s decor and ambiance, you’ll never want to look back.

Time For A Yellow Area Rug

Springtime, and sunshine, warmth and relaxation. If you’re looking to add any of these feelings to your home, then a yellow area rug is right up your alley.

Using yellow area rugs in your home can be a great decor move. It’s not the first color that most people think of for area rugs, but it can be really effective at brightening up a room, particularly if there is a lack of sufficient natural light.

While you might initially think that a bright yellow rug is too much or too loud, don’t ignore the softer shades of yellow for a more subtle and gentle effect. In the bathroom, having a yellow and white rug on the floor is a great way to start the day on a cheerful note. Since bathrooms are very often lacking in light, or slightly squashed quarters, a yellow bath rug can almost always work wonderfully.

Yellow Area RugAnother room where yellow rugs work wonderfully is the living room. You’ll want to stay away from a bright or solid colored rug here, since it is likely to be a rather large area rug, but there are different patterns that can really brighten up the room and make it a more inviting place to be. Consider a soft abstract design, or a modern or traditional yellow floral rug for a gentle touch.

For a striking look, consider looking at yellow and blue rugs. You can go for bright bolds, or choose a softer slate blue and yellow rug, which will work well in most rooms. This combination plays on the complimentary aspect of these two colors, as yellow and blue are opposites on the color wheel. When the two come together, they work as well as the classic red and green Christmas color combo.

If you think your room can handle some intensity, such as a very modern setting, or a teen’s bedroom or a workout room, a solid yellow rug might be just the right thing. As long as you’re having fun, go for something even more unusual, like a round area rug, an irregular shape, or a funky texture. A yellow shag area rug in a room that screams hip can be the frosting on the cake.

Whether you decide to go for something bold or bashful, yellow is a beautiful bright color that shouldn’t be overlooked. You’ll be thrilled with the effect it lends to your home, and the bonus pick-me-up feeling that comes with it.

Perfectly Purple Area Rugs

Purple has always been my favorite color. It’s such a rich, vibrant color, and each shade has both a fun and sophisticated side. It’s the perfect color for home decor, either as an accent or as the basis of a room’s color scheme. One of the best ways of working this marvelous color into your home is with purple area rugs.

The type of rug you’ll need will depend on what room you are planning on putting it in. In the living room, a dark purple area rug is bound to be a major focal point, so give extra thought to both the shade and type of rug you choose. Purple shag rugs will be intense and absorbing, and will really only work if you have a modern theme, but they will be smashing with black or white leather couches and some monochromatic abstract artwork.

If you have a more traditional living room design, consider using a purple rug in a lighter shade, or with designs that incorporate some other complimentary colors. You’ll be surprised to find that there are some really stunning Oriental area rugs in classic designs that make heavy use of purple, but in a much more subtle fashion than with solid purple rugs.

Purple Area RugsIn a bathroom though, there’s no need for restraint. Go all out with bright purple bath rugs and some matching accessories. It’s a room that isn’t always on display, and you can really let your bright, loud, and creative side loose here. Consider using one other nearly neon or tropical color as an accent, such as using lime green curtains and toothbrush holders, or a fabulous orange instead. Or, you may want to look at purple bathroom rugs that feature modern, geometric designs for a cheerful bathroom that will make you– and your guests– smile whenever you enter.

The bedroom offers lots of possibilities as well. There is nothing as luxurious as stepping out of bed onto a soft, fluffy surface, so this is another room where a purple shag area rug will work well. You can find shag rugs made out of all sorts of materials, from soft fluff to fur, to wool, and even leather. You’ll have a blast trying out all of the different feels there are to purple shaggy rugs, so make sure to base your choice not just on the way it looks, but also on the sensorial experience it offers.

There are two more options that you should definitely consider. One has to do with shape. Since you’re going for a more unusual color, why not leave the classic rectangle behind as well. Oval or round purple rugs work wonderfully in many large home spaces, and are also perfect for beside a bed. If you do get a round rug, you can have a very nice contrast to the outer shape by going for a rug that has square or rectangular designs. This can really tie together your more angular furnishings with the rug, for a great effect.

One more option that can be absolutely fabulous is by getting creative with purple zebra rugs. You can either use one in a contemporary room, or for an even more sensational look, place a large purple zebra rug beneath a traditional dining room table. This look is a wonderful blend of the old and the new, and creates a truly elegant atmosphere.

Have fun while looking at all of the purple rugs for sale and figuring out which one will work best in your home. Whether you live in the US, the UK, or somewhere in between, you’re sure to find the perfect purple area rug for your home, either in a rug store or online.

Modern Furniture: How to Make It Work in Your Home

The origins of modern furniture date back as early as Roman times!

Not particularly modern you might think, but it is the philosophy of the modern approach to design that marks it out rather than any particular date.

Modern design furniture developed from the emerging new approaches to architecture and design of the early 19th Century. The designers of this era were influenced not by the stuffy Victorian interiors of their parent generation, full of useless knick-knacks and heavy dark overly-ornate furnishing. Instead, they were inspired by the cultural influence of far flung countries that, at the time were the colonies of old Europe.

So what did regions like Africa, Asia and the Far East have to teach the makers of modern furniture? Simply the twin principles of form and function that are the blueprint of modern design furniture.

What makes a good piece of modern furniture?

Clean lines, simplicity and the ability to perform an obvious function are the ground rules for deciding whether modern furniture is simply a piece of clever kitsch or a true design classic.

How to choose what to buy.

First, research your subject well. Check on the internet and in interiors magazines to get an idea of the sort of modern furniture you like. Do you like bold colours and prints or muted tones? Do you like wood or steel and plastics? Or perhaps you like the retro-modern look of the 50′s and 60′s? You will be able to mix and match these styles but it’s a good idea to find out what themes appeal to you.

Second, know your needs. Let’s use modern bedroom furniture as an example. Make sure you know how much space you have to fill and what size your furniture needs to be. Too big a wardrobe for instance will swamp the room. Too small a wardrobe and you’ll need yet more furniture to house your clothes. If you have time it’s good to shop around and not let yourself fall in love with furniture that isn’t fit for its purpose.

If it does the job you want it to do, you won’t need to replace it for many years to come. So it’s worth getting it right.

Third, be ruthless about the principles of form and function. It’s difficult, but resist the urge to start filling your hard-won spacious interior with smart modern knick knacks. It detracts from the beauty and functionality of the furniture. If it’s pointless, leave it out.

Follow these two principles and you can’t go wrong. As long as your choice serves its purpose and has a clean simple beauty then you have a winner. The key is to let the beauty of your furniture speak for itself. It should need no adornments to look stunning, just space to let the quality of the design shine through.
