Shopping For An Air Bed

Most of us consider investing in an air bed when we’re either going on a camping trip or having extra guests but no space for a permanent mattress. Some people actually enjoy long term sleep accommodations on an air bed, as well. The simple air mattress has evolved into luxury semi permanent beds for those, and there are many to choose from.

The difference between an air mattress and bed? An air bed will often be taller, similar to a mattress and box spring. This added height, called a raised air bed, makes getting in and out of bed easier. It also makes guests feel more at home. It doesn’t scream ”we just pulled this out of the closet for you.”

What do you need to know in air bed shopping?

1. Where is the bed to be used?
Indoor air beds can be large, tall, luxurious, come with extra mattress pads, utilize an external electrical air bed pump. In your home, you can probably make room for all these things. If your bed is for camping and outdoors use, however, you’re more limited. You need a rugged, reliable bed that inflates easy; preferably self inflating, or with a battery power or car adaptor.
You can also buy indoor outdoor beds, suitable for both.
2. Who is sleeping on the bed?
Or more precisely, how many people. You can buy a twin air bed, a queen air bed, a king size air bed, or a double air bed. A double air bed is, as it sounds, double sized; two can sleep comfortably, but its smaller than king or queen.
3. What are your inflate and deflate requirements?
Do you need something that inflates very quickly? Are you able to pump it manually, or do you want an electric pump? Would you prefer an air bed that inflates automatically? Make sure to check the specifications on every air bed you consider.
4. What are you storage capabilities?
Tall air beds and ones with a metal air bed frame are more comfortable and more similar to a real bed, but are not so portable and take up space. Some air beds are made for traveling and storage convenience. They’ll even include a carrying bag.

Air bed reviews may help greatly in your shopping spree. The Coleman air beds are spoken particularly well about. The Coleman 4 in 1 air bed, for example, is very accommodating. It can act as 2 separate low twin beds, one low king size, or one twin at double height. It is durable, and portable, as well. The self inflating Intex air bed is also a good buy. It’s “flocked” top feels like velour; less sweaty than plastic or vinyl, and holds sheets better, too. The AeroSport All Terrain is incredibly thick, virtually puncture proof: perfect for serious outdoor use.
